Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India has established ‘MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to systematically foster the culture of Innovation among all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes while they are in their formative years.
Ministry of Education (MoE) through MoE’s Innovation cell (MIC) launched the Institution Innovation Council (IIC) program in collaboration with AICTE for Higher Educational Institutions (HEI’s) to systematically foster the culture of innovation and start-up ecosystem in educational Institutions. The primary goal of this council is to inspire, encourage and nurture the young students for different activities involved in pre-incubation, incubation and making successful startups. Our college has established Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) for promoting different activities related to the innovation, IPR, startup and entrepreneurships. It is one of the best ways to interact with young minds and get a chance to mentor them.
The Institution’s Innovation Council of Modern Education Society’s Wadia College of Engineering (IIC MESWCOE) has been established on 22nd October 2020. At present there are 55 staff and 63 students who are active members of IIC. These members are actively coordinating and organizing multiple activities for the benefit of all the students of MESCOE. MIC has divided the complete academic year into 4 quarters.
1. ATAL Innovation Ranking (ARIIA) 2. NIRF Ranking 3. IIC Ranking 4. Funding to potential startups by MIC (Ministry of Education’s Innovation Council) 5. Motivation to students to become entrepreneurs 6. Internship opportunities at startups to students 7. Educate students regarding the IPR process and its importance 8. To conduct various Innovation, IPR and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by Central MIC in time bound fashion. 9. Organize periodic workshops/ seminars/ interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and create a mentor pool for student innovators. 10. Organize Hackathons, idea competition, mini-challenges etc. with the involvement of industries.

Intellectual Property Rights is an inevitable tool for today’s globalized economy. Fostering innovation is one of the sustainable development goals set by the Government of India. “An India where Intellectual Property stimulates creativity and innovation for the benefit of all” is the vision of our National IPR Policy. Several initiatives have already proven to foster innovation like the Make in India, Start-up India, Digital India and Skill India.
Such initiative also taken by MES’s Wadia College of Engineering, Pune by Establishing IPR CEL in collaboration with Institution Innovation Council (IIC) an Initiative of MHRD for selected Higher Education Institutes, Government of India.
Objective of IPR CEL To promote awareness about IPRs and conduct related activities on campus or as mandated in IIC council meeting.
The Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) at Modern Education Society’s Wadia College of Engineering, Pune was established in 2024 with the goal of nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset and empowering students to turn their innovative ideas into impactful ventures. Guided by our tagline, “Innovate Today, Elevate Tomorrow,” we are committed to inspiring students to think creatively, take risks, and build solutions that will shape the future. Guiding the E-Cell MESWCOE as its Faculty Advisor has been an enriching experience. The enthusiasm and dedication of the students are truly commendable. They have displayed remarkable initiative in organizing impactful programs, building partnerships, and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among their peers. The E-Cell has grown into a dynamic platform where students learn to think innovatively, take calculated risks, and develop a problem-solving attitude. I am confident that their efforts will continue to elevate the entrepreneurial spirit in our college.

Team social media is looking after connecting all the students of MESWCOE via Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and What’s App for all IIC-MESWCOE events. The approved brochure is uploaded on social media platforms for publicity and promotion so IIC-MESWCOE can reach to large audience. Along with social media, each event of IIC-MESWCOE is made live on YouTube with due permission from resource person. Even for some of the event, glimpses of events are uploaded on YouTube to make an appeal to watch the recorded or live streamed video.
